R. Family Photo Shoot

Each time I meet with a new family, I begin the day with butterflies in my stomach, and end the day with a smile. This day was no different. I was nervous until I put my camera up to my eye and started snapping, then all my worries blew away with the wind, and the fun began. This family laughed, skipped, wrestled, and laughed some more — what a pleasure, and an honor, to have captured these special moments.

A Walk in the Park

It was a beautiful fall day here in Milwaukee, WI. The sun was shining bright and it was unusually warm — 77 degrees. I was lucky enough to be asked to take some pictures of a yellow lab named Colby. Colby is 9 1/2 years old, and her humans want to have some pictures taken before it’s too late. They asked me to add this poem to one of the images: “She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader. She will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion.”

My First Wedding Shoot – Antigua, West Indies

I just started my photography business in June this year — I’m a total rookie at portraiture and event photography. After a few successful family and children portraits, a few people had asked if I would consider shooting weddings. I thought about this for a moment, and then replied, that I would like to start with a small outdoor wedding, and see how it goes. Shortly after, I received an email from a friend, asking if I would shoot their destination wedding (ask and you shall receive). She sent the email because she didn’t want to put me on the spot with a phone call or a meeting. I’m glad she did, so she wasn’t able to hear the silence, or see my jaw drop. In my mind, I started to make excuses why I shouldn’t, or couldn’t, shoot their wedding. Then I felt that burn in my gut — the one I feel every time I’ve got my camera in my hand, and I knew I had to put all fear aside and just go for it! This is what I want, and I couldn’t hold myself back any longer. So I sent her a message telling her I would shoot their wedding, but I explained that this would be my first. She called immediately and was so excited! She said she didn’t care if it was my first, as long as it was me. They didn’t want to hire someone they didn’t know — who didn’t know them — to shoot their wedding. I think we were both on the verge of tears. So off I went, nervous as all get out, to Antigua, West Indies, with my two good friends, to shoot pictures with love, of two people in love. I was so humbled by this experience, to not only have the opportunity to be there with J. and S. for their special day, but to be by their sides every step of the way to capture so many special, fleeting moments — what an honor.
